Latest from our favorite quarantine songsmith, James Blake, comes his emotional new single “Are You Even Real.” The single follows his and rising Toronto singer-songwriter and poet Mustafa’s studio rendition of Blake’s latest track “Come Back”.
After many covers of his favorite songs that he did, such as Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” and Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You,” we finally get his new original material, and it’s beautifully composed in a poignant orchestra-driven sound with emotional and transformative lyrics that read: “There’s no five years/ There’s no ten years/ Only this/ Queen of, queen of, queen of queens/ There’s no knife/ ‘Cause there’s no tension/ Only this/ Lucid dream of dream of dreams.”
Listen to “Are You Even Real” and watch Apple Music’s preview clip of Blake behind-the-scenes crafting the hit alone in his studio in a campaign for the new slate of Macbooks and Logic Pro X.
